WHAT MAKES THE DEVELOPMENTAL EDUCATOR PROFESSION UNIQUE?

  • Developmental educators use a human rights framework to support those they work with. All that they do is based on the need “to promote, protect and ensure the full and equal enjoyment of all human rights and fundamental freedoms by all persons with disabilities, and to promote respect for their inherent dignity.” (CRPD, 2007, Article 1).”

  • Developmental educators approach their work by focusing on the lived experience, needs, goals and ambitions of people with disability.

  • Developmental educators work with people with disability to promote inclusion and address barriers - both in the environment and the attitudes of others.
